Increase Student Success with a Simple TILT of Your Work

Arts & Culturestrafford
Mary-Ann Winkelmes, Ph.D., Founder/Director of TILT Higher Ed, will join us virtually for a two-hour interactive training on the Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT) method, a small, evidence-based adjustment to teaching/learning/advising/planning practices that reduces barriers to inclusion and understanding, and heightens students' recognition of the value of their learning. As few as two TILTed assignments in a course can benefit students' success significantly, with even greater gains for underserved students. It benefits students' success by increasing their sense of belonging, confidence, persistence, metacognitive awareness of skill development, and workplace readiness (Winkelmes, et al., 2016, Calkins and Winkelmes, 2018;Winkelmes, et al. 2019). This highly interactive workshop introduces faculty and student support personnel to TILT and engages them in discussing examples. Workshop participants will: gain familiarity with the research on TILT and how it works, practice applying the TILT Framework to examples provided from TILT research studies, revise an assignment prompt or student-facing communication/process of their own to make it more transparent, relevant, and accessible for students.RSVP for this event, seats are limited.
